A PUZZLE PIECE OF PEACE December 21, 2008

A rather harried dad needed to get some work done at home, but his young son wanted to play with him instead. Dad decided to keep his son busy by cutting up a large picture of the world into small puzzle pieces and letting him put it together while he got his work done.
In a very short time the boy completed the puzzle and wanted dad to play. Stunned and a bit perplexed, the dad looked at the finished picture of the world and asked his son how he had put it together so quickly. He said, “It was easy, Dad. There was a picture of a man on the back. When I put the man together then the world came together.”
All around our troubled, fractured world people crave the peace that was promised millennia ago with the coming of the Prince of Peace. However, the Prince of Peace rules over a kingdom of peace which exists within each human heart. It isn’t a material or mental kingdom. In fact, the material mental realm cannot even comprehend true peace. It is a kingdom of chaos and suffering. One just needs to look around to know that this is true.
Since most of us live from our heads and not from our hearts, we experience a world full of problems, drama, violence and sorrow. We expect nations to communicate and work together; yet in our homes and businesses there is strife and division with even an “off with their heads” attitude in some cases. This is unrealistic, insane behavior.
Einstein said that no problem can be solved by using the same thinking that created it in the first place. Yet that is exactly what the world systems have been attempting to do since the beginning of recorded history. The “go to war to end war” idea is acted out individually and collectively ad nauseum. We could just continue this insanity for another 1,000 years, or we could actually summon the courage to tap into the kingdom within that is always in peace.
The power of the peace that is in the human heart is mightier than any mega bomb. We have experienced this power from those who have lived inside out from the heart. Well known peacemakers such as Mother Theresa, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr., Helen Keller, are a few examples. We discount ourselves when we buy into the lie that only “special” people can demonstrate world changing peace. Any one of us can go within and withdraw the overcoming power of peace from our hearts.
It is interesting to note that all the religions in the world have similar peace prayers. I believe this proves that on a spiritual level we are all linked through our hearts to one another. We’re only warring with one another because we insist on relating to each other with our self-centered ego minds. Most of our wars are over religion, because it too has been degraded to mental dogmas instead of spiritual heart felt experiences. Like little children on the playground we are taunting each other with “My God’s better than your god!” Mental religion is contentious and spiritual religion is peaceful.
The core message of all the world religions is to love the Creator with all one’s heart, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself. It is an individual experience, generated from the inside out. We will never have peace ON earth until we have peace IN earth – our own earthen vessels. We must put the man together before we can hope to see the world come together. Each of us needs to take responsibility to do our part to clean up our own lives so they demonstrate as much peace as possible. It takes courage to look within our hearts and weed out the hatred, bitterness, resentments, and fears. But it beats literally going to war in our homes or abroad.
We have been gifted everything we need to put the right pieces of ourselves together and discard the misshapen pieces that don’t fit the peaceful souls we truly are. Like the world puzzle, we become one piece of peace that fits perfectly into the whole.
CHRISTMAS INSIDE OUT December 19, 2008

Since ancient times, this solstice season has been celebrated as the return of light to the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun begins to shine longer and longer each day after December 21st. We could call this an outside–in experience as opposed to an inside-out experience.
As our ancestors grew in their awareness they began to ask “Why are we here? What is our purpose?” Taking their clues from nature, they perceived there was a pattern of creation. Everything moved in a set predetermined rhythm in a “birth – death – rebirth cycle”. They discovered that when they followed nature’s pattern they lived in harmony, were prosperous, and happy. They were “going with the flow” as it were. You could even say they were “en-lightened” because they were aware that the outside pattern was within them also. They found their lives worked so much better when the inside and outside were in alignment!
As a civilization we have made phenomenal progress in the physical outside world, even manipulating nature to our liking in many ways. Some of these manipulations are backfiring on us, which indicates we have been operating outside the perfect pattern. Likewise, we have made great strides in language and mind sciences, but have put our outer mental life above our inner soul life. This too is operating outside the perfect pattern.
One current example of how we’re doing this is that we forget that the words and symbols describing this season are not the actual inner meaning of the season. I’m referring to the battle going on between whether to say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. The words Christmas and Holiday are just words. They are not an inner experience. Whether or not you have a Merry Christmas or a Happy Holiday comes from within you according to your understanding of the meaning of life. Enlightenment, love, joy, peace and bliss don’t come to us via words. Just saying these words doesn’t give you the experience of them.
We see the confusion between outside words and inside experience being played out between the Merry Christmas group and the Happy Holidays group…at least in the USA. Each group claims the other is forcing their beliefs on the other and ruining the spirit of the season. The Merry Christmas group believes the Happy Holidays people are persecuting Christian believers and preventing them from exercising their freedom of religion. The Happy Holidays group believes that they are damaged by having the word Christ pushed on them and preventing them from exercising their freedom from religion. It is all just two sides of the same coin – the coin of the 3D realm – life outside in or resisting the pattern of creation.
We cheat ourselves if we live our precious lives outside-in. It is almost like a slap in the face to the Creator, (whatever you may choose to name that deity) because it is denying our essence. Scripture says we are created in the image of God. Ancients spoke of us as being sparks off the Sun. We are illumined from within as is the Sun. But we are free to choose to limit ourselves and lose our peace over whether or not others say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”; and whether or not members of one faith appreciate the symbols of another faith on display.
Enlightenment (light within) is the reason for the season. Allowing the Light to shine on our inner darkness and transform it is the goal for each and every one of us if we are to embody and experience what we are created to be. We are spiritual beings having a human experience, not just human beings having an occasional spiritual experience. Each time we find ourselves tempted to get hooked on words or symbols that conflict with a belief we can catch ourselves and go within to the still center point.
It is said that people usually don’t remember what you say, but they will always remember how you made them feel. That is living inside out. Let go and let the Light shine. It is a wonderful thing to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of each individual part of the whole.
Merry Outside, Happy Inside Christmas Holiday!
ORGASMIC LAUGHTER December 7, 2008

Have you ever noticed how deeply connected you feel to someone with whom you share a belly laugh? Can you imagine fighting or arguing with that person? If you are the one that caused the belly laugh in another you probably feel incredibly blessed because something you gave of yourself was received in another’s soul.
What is it about this deep laughter that creates a bridge between us, joining us on a higher level of oneness? I believe it is a gift of Divinity to the human soul. As far as we know no other living species has belly laughter. I think we could surmise that dogs and maybe cats smile, but I don’t think they laugh. Proverbs tells us that “laughter does us good as a medicine”.
Medical science tells us that orgasms make us healthier too. Hmmm.
Laughter is probably more accessible than orgasms for most of us; but almost as rare for many. Deep laughter could be the key to saving humanity from our current health and world conflict issues. What if we were to learn what different cultures found hilarious? Can you imagine how much more connected to them we would feel if we made them double over in laughter?
People are very open and vulnerable when they let go and laugh till they cry or wet their pants. You are never the same with the one who brought you to that state of release from your prison of self control. This is why I think it is like an orgasm. I’m not trying to downgrade sexual orgasms. Rather, I am trying to elevate our awareness of humor that heals.
It is said that when you share your body with another that you bond at a soul level with that person. Even if a relationship doesn’t last the two stay bonded. Orgasms are usually limited to two people whereas laughter is more inclusive.
In the case of laughter we can experience that orgasmic bond, because we drop our masks, open our hearts and meld together in ineffable joy. The joy is the overcoming power of the divinity within us. In that moment we become one. We feel love and appreciation for the immense release of energy the laughter created.
So why don’t we focus our creative minds on discovering hilarious topics to spring on each other to experience a spontaneous explosion of wholesome joy? It will help heal our bodies and it will diffuse anger and conflict. The best part is that it is free and there is no end to its availability.
I wish I had a terrific joke to tell you here, but possibly the content of this article will do it for you!
CAN WE CHANGE? December 6, 2008

Now that we have successfully decided to CHANGE as a group, what is the next step? Changing a nation is a lot like changing a person. Number one…no one can change another person. Number two…the person needing change must really, really want to change. That means that they have decided what they are doing isn’t working for them anymore.
As a nation we have pretty much decided what we don’t want and what is not working for us anymore. The majority really want a change. But what do we want? It isn’t enough to know what we don’t want.
Most of us can conjure up long lists of what we don’t want and rattle it off without even trying. But when you ask someone, “What do you really want for your life?” or “What is your purpose for being here?” they glaze over. As a nation we could glaze over very easily because we haven’t focued our energy deeply into the issues of what we want this nation to look and feel like. We just know what we don’t like.
The new President cannot do all the heavy lifting himself. He can suggest ideas as to how to create wealth on Main Street, end wars, provide universal health care, etc. etc. But unless we take some time and ponder these issues ourselves and maybe even have discussions with friends and colleagues about them, nothing much will be created or change. We will slow the process for lasting change and maybe even get more of what we don’t want!
The icky issue is that each of us is a microcasm of the macrocasm, and that means we each have to solve the wars, economic failures, health issues and social glitches in our personal lives immediately if not sooner! We expect Obama to ride in as a white knight and wave a wand and heal our critically ill nation/world like Merlin the magician. Not realistic. More wishful thinking.
I hate the fact that I have to take full responsibility for my life and the messes I have made. I have been waiting for Prince Charming, Robin Hood, The Rapture, you name it for decades. I want so badly to think that it really can happen – a miracle on 34th street or whatever. But the reality check is that I have to step up and answer “Present.” Am I present? Am I aware? Am I conscious? Do I really SEE reality?
The curtain is down on the wizard. Toto (the dog whose name means your EVERYTHING) has pulled it down and exposed the fraud that has been masquarading as our American Dream Life. The shoot out at the OK corral has just finished. Now we as the townspeople or the Munchkins in Oz get to decide what and who we want to run the show. But we have been drunk on greed and materialism just as our leaders have been. We have to sober up, quickly!
We need to step up here and figure out what we want as individuals and what we want as towns and counties and states and nations. That means we probably have to spend less time in front of the TV. We may have to actually meet our neighbors and talk to them about what they want. Wow, what a concept!
In a way we are resurrecting the 60’s without LSD! If we had pulled the drug abuse out of the movement, it would have been exactly what we need today. The 1960’s was about being authentic, loving and aware. What a great combination.
I am ecouraged by this mess we have in the US. (For those of you in other countries, I’m sorry you can’t be here in person for this party BUT you can join virtually!). We are on the brink of finding out just how fabulous and absolutely transcendent we really are. Amazing things are about to happen as we discover what we can do when we wake up and actually SEE each other.
I think I may have gone on too long for this post, but I will be back soon for more fun ideas as to how we can literally put Humpty Dumpty back together. Yes we can!
