There is a very wonderful video circulating the world on the internet. Many different people sing and play Stand By Me. Here is the link to tune in and watch as soon as you can. http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741             Here are the lyrics:

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No I won’t be afraid
Oh I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, I won’t cry
No I won’t shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

Darlin’ darlin’ stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me

Whenever you’re in trouble just stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, oh stand, stand by me

Every one of us feels we can bear just about anything if we have someone standing by us that understand. As human beings we almost inherently know that we are not made to go it alone in this world. We are vitally connected to others.  In this current world which seems very fractured, it is very easy to become extremely distracted by a constant bombardment of media, technology and economic stressors. Since the media’s mantra is “If it bleeds, it leads.” we usually only hear of negative and destructive events happening around the world.

Our poor minds can’t tell the difference between what we see on TV and what we see in real life, so it reacts to everything in real time. Whatever the mind hears in present time it believes it is happening now. So when you tell a sad story about a past event, your mind relives it as if it is happening in the present as you’re speaking. Then it releases all the stress hormones to help cope with that problem. This is why it is so vital to censor what we allow into our minds. If all it sees and hears is horrible negative news, it will be easy to think the whole world is like the news stories. But it isn’t! There are millions of miraculous, loving, compassionate acts of kindness happening every second around the globe that we never hear about.
There is more proof all the time that we create what we focus on. If we focus on all the good in our lives and have an attitude of gratitude for the many parts that are good and working, then we will get more of those things. Keeping a gratitude journal is very helpful. Recording all the things that are a blessing in your life will dramatically alter your world view.
There are many positive affirmative videos like the one mentioned above as well as inspirational affirmations circulating on the internet that one can plug into everyday to get a lift and get going in the right direction. In a way, the internet is providing a way for all of us to STAND BY EACH OTHER. The Stand By Me video is awesome because the music and the words resonate so deeply within and we can feel connected to everyone.

The Universe is conspiring to teach us Compassionate Connection through these testing times. The world is especially polarized now with very little neutral ground to dabble around in. We are forced to make a choice for the light or the dark, the love or the fear. Every moment is an opportunity to choose which side we want to put our energy toward. Anything that helps us grow toward compassion and/or connection with others is sacred work.  When we stand by each other we are standing on holy ground.

Compassion means with passion and passion sometimes means suffering. We are with others in their suffering and that is what helps lighten the load. Jesus said this too. He said “Cast your cares on me, because I care for you”.  The Christ is within you and me and that is what we do… we stand by each other. We are to be the Good Samaritan for each other.

Play that video again and again until the joy of it just overflows.
