About Shirley Hart
I am a devoted follower of Dr. Jean Bolen, a Jungian analyst, whose book Crones Don’t Whine is my guidebook. In addition to her celebration of those of mature age, she promotes establishing one million circles of like-minded souls around the world to intend peace and unity locally and globally. As a “juicy crone” myself, I hope to have enough time left to help others enjoy life, free of the guilt and shame of cultural and political patriarchy and crippling religious dogma.
I’ve been a wife, (not currently) a mom of 3 sons, (mostly as a single mom), and made “bricks for the Pharaoh” in the corporate world for over half of my life. Oh, I had a teaching ministry in a Christian Bible School in the late 60’s. In 2005 I earned a Masters of Divinity and was ordained as an interfaith minister. I find the Bible rich in symbolism and magnificent mythologies. Much gratitude goes to the late Joseph Campbell who enlarged my vision of scriptures from a limiting literal interpretation.
I still have ‘little’ jobs that are light and airy that give me air to breathe and time to write, which is my passion. I think I can bring a little different perspective to theological writings because I come from a feminine perspective and have lived through some fascinating experiences.
I was exposed to the Grateful Dead culture in the late 60’s because my husband was the manager for a year or so because his son was and still is the drummer… Mickey Hart. Needless to say, he was a “few” years older than me; but that is a whole other story. That was “a long strange trip!” (We were both ministry students at the time and had 3 babies under 5. How’s that for polarity??!!) After this past election in 2008, I’m beginning to think the time now is like the 60’s on steroids!
Humor and playfulness are an integral part of growing our spirits and so I call my blog a Cosmic Sand Box. It’s just easier to look at our shadow side if we can laugh at ourselves along the way and have some fun. Don’t you agree?
