About Shirley Hart; Cosmic Sand Box
I am a recovered fundamentalist Evangelical Christian grandma who is re-inventing myself as a “juicy crone” (or sage) in hopes of having enough time left to help others get free of guilt and shame and become firmly planted in joy and peace.
The inspiration for this blog came from my late Lhasa Apso, Sammie. She truly was a life saver for me through many difficult days.
I’ve been a wife, (not now though) a mom of 3 sons, (mostly as a single mom), and worked making “bricks for the Pharoh” in the corporate world for half of my life. Oh, BTW, I studied for the ministry in my 20’s as a Pentecostal; and became ordained as an interfaith minister 30 years later. I do love the study of the Bible for its rich symoblism and magnificent mythologies. I owe much gratitude to the late Joseph Campbell, whose work rescued me from a literal interpretation of any and all scriptures.
I still have ‘little’ jobs that are light and airy that give me air to breathe and time to write, which is my passion. I think I can bring a little different perspective to theological writings because I come from a feminine perspective and have been through some “Waring Blender-type” fascinating experiences throughout my lifetime. For example: I was exposed to the Grateful Dead culture in the late 60’s when my husband was the manager for a year or so because his son, Mickey Hart, was and still is the drummerof the band. That was “a long strange trip!” (We were both ministry students at the time with three babies under 5. How’s that for polarity??!!) After this past election I’m beginning to think we are living in the 60’s on steroids! LOL Unfortunately Mr. L. Hart, who was two decades older than me, passed away in 1974. His greatest gift to me are my three fabulous and creative sons. (Excuse me if I’m a little prejudiced). Humor and playfulness are an integral part of growing our spirits; and so, I call my blog a Cosmic Sand Box. I think it’s much easier to look at our Shadow side if we can laugh at ourselves, be happy and have fun. Don’t you agree? Even Jesus said we must become as little kids to see the Kingdom. There’s no shame or guilt in sand boxes! If any of you have questions about where I’m coming from, please comment freely on this blog. Together we can rebuild our castles.
I love your site. Keep it up !
Thank you so much! I’m currently working on a new blog but will keep everyone posted as to what the new one will be called.
